The CBS daytime talk show The Talk, now in its 15th season, is nearing its final episode, set to air on December 20, 2024. Despite having a few weeks left to wrap up filming, a production insider revealed there’s a mix of emotions on set. While some staff and cast members are putting in extra effort to finish strong, others have already “checked out.”
Currently hosted by Sheryl Underwood, Jerry O’Connell, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, and Natalie Morales, the show has faced struggles since the departure of Sharon Osbourne in 2021. Declining ratings led CBS to announce the series’ cancellation earlier this year, marking the end of its award-winning format after 15 years.
“It feels like a senior year atmosphere,” the source noted. “Some are fully invested in making the most of the final days, but others—both in front of and behind the camera—seem ready to move on.”
The insider added that the shift in energy hasn’t gone unnoticed. “The audience can tell when someone’s heart isn’t in it. It’s clear who’s still passionate about the show and who’s just waiting for it to end.”
Reports of on-set tension have emerged, particularly regarding Sheryl Underwood, who has been observed spending time alone during breaks. In contrast, Jerry O’Connell is described as the most charismatic member of the team, loved by both the crew and viewers. “Jerry brings a fun, lively vibe to the set, but the atmosphere changes when Sheryl is around—it becomes more serious, almost like having a principal in the room.”
CBS executives, including Amy Reisenbach and David Stapf, released a statement expressing gratitude for the show’s impact. They acknowledged the challenges of producing a year-round talk show and commended both current and former hosts for their dedication.
Fans can catch the series finale of The Talk on CBS on December 20, marking the end of an era for one of daytime TV’s most iconic programs.
